Projects of ARUS Members to Continue Speedily in 2021
During 2020 and 2021, ARUS members have continued their domestic and national production with the tenders they won both from national and international public enterprises.
Anatolian Rail Transportation Systems Cluster Members Will Continue Domestic and National Production in 2021.
RAIL SYSTEM VEHICLE MANUFACTURERS
BOZANKAYA
After completing 88 metro vehicles and Bangkok Blueline-105 metro body production works in 2019 for Bangkok, Bozankaya will complete the 30 m. 100 % low-floor 21-vehicle tram project in 2021 in Timisoara/Romania, which costs 42 million Euros, with the projects agreed in 2020. There are 19 more options in the project. The battery-powered trams that can speed up to 70 km/h will have 5 modules and a capacity of 270 passengers.
Bozankaya has also won the 30-meter-long 16-vehicle 100 % low-floor YAS tram project, which costs 33 million Euros, in Romania, and included the project in the company’s production line.
This year, Bozankaya has won the 32-meter-long 15-vehicle 100 % low-floor two-way tram project of Antalya Municipality with the capacity of 300 passengers and cost of 210 million TL; which is the company’s second work in domestic and national tram production following the 30-vehicle tram delivered to Kayseri in 2017.
Winning tender for the 28 metro vehicles for the Gebze-Darica line including 7 sets with 4 vehicles in each, Bozankaya will manufacture Turkey’s first domestic and national driverless metro vehicles. The total cost of the tender is approximately 350 million TL. The production of the vehicles will be completed and delivered within 30 months.
Recently, Bozankaya has won the tender for 100-vehicle trolleybus with a total cost of 44.5 million Euros for Bucharest/Romania. Trolleybuses have the capacity of 24 seats and 96 passengers.
Besides domestic electric and rail system vehicles, Bozankaya continues to export electric buses, trolleybuses, rail system vehicle chassis and spare parts to the world market.
DURMAZLAR
Durmazlar continues rail system production with domestic and international projects in 2021.
These projects are:
30 Trams with APS system project on Eminönü – Alibeyköy line,
Poland – Olsztyn Tram Project. Total 12 + (12-Option) trams approximately 24.2m €,
Romania – Resita Tram Project. Total 13 Trams approximately 23.3 m €,
Production of high-speed train bogies planned for Alstom in 2021.
Durmazlar plans to manufacture Alstom high-speed train bogies, as well as bodyworks for Alstom and Bombardier.
TURASAS
TURASAS has become Turkey’s largest rail system vehicle producer with merging of Turkey’s largest railway vehicle producers TULOMSAS, TUVASAS, and TUDEMSAS. TÜRASAŞ aims to successfully fulfill the task of establishing a roof for all companies in the railway sector by designing the railway vehicles and critical subsystems that are needed by our country and our region with domestic and national facilities by carrying out their production together with the domestic suppliers.

Making the best bid for the 32-vehicle Gaziray Suburban Line and Light Rail Transport Project tender carried out by Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality, TURASAS expects the following in production:
Within the scope of the company’s objectives, the Project for the Development of National CoCo Type Mainline Locomotive Platform, which can be used in three different types of locomotives, has been initiated. With this project, along with other locomotives in company’s portfolio, Turkey’s foreign dependency in locomotives will be ceased.
The concept design of the National High-Speed Train with a speed of 250 km/h has been completed by TURASAS and the related works are ongoing.
ONGOING TCDD RAILWAYS INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS
In order to shorten the distance between provinces and ease human life in Turkey, construction works continue for a total of 4.256 kilometers of new railway lines including 2.050 kilometers of High-Speed Train, 1.786 kilometers of Speed Train and 429 kilometers of conventional lines, besides the signalization works on the section of 2.323 kilometers and the electrification works on the section of 987 kilometers.
The infrastructure works continue between Ankara (Polatli) -Afyonkarahisar, Afyonkarahisar-Usak (Banaz), Banaz-Esme, Esme-Salihli, Salihli-Manisa and Manisa-Menemen within the scope of Ankara-Izmir High Speed Train Project with a total cost of 6.5 billion TL.
The Ankara-Sivas High-Speed Train Project, which is an important stage in the of the Iron Silk Road Project together with the Marmaray and Kars-Baku-Tbilisi railway projects, is planned to be completed in 2021.
On the Yerkoy-Sivas High Speed Train line, all line superstructure, electrification, signalization, telecommunication, design, production, assembly, testing and commissioning of central control systems, personnel training and technical training documentation services will be carried out by Yapi Merkezi.
The infrastructure works of the 311 kilometers of High-Speed Train among Mersin-Adana and Gaziantep will continue in 2021. When the line is completed, it will be easier and more comfortable to reach Gaziantep from Mersin at a speed of 200 kilometers per hour. With the project, the transport duration between Mersin and Gaziantep will be reduced to 1.5 hours. The project will be conducted by Ronesans Holding for approximately 6.8 billion TL.
Bandirma-Bursa-Ayazma-Osmaneli High Speed Train Project Infrastructure Construction works will be completed.
Diyarbakır – Mardin Mazidagi Railway Line and Palu-Genc-Mus Railway Construction Works will be completed.
Within the scope of the Gaziray Project, a total of 112 kilometers of high-speed train line is being constructed including the high-speed train line with 2 suburban lines and 2 high-speed train lines on 25.5 kilometers of route. Gaziray Suburban train line construction works will continue next year. The suburban trains of this line are expected to be produced by TURASAS. With the project prepared for high-speed train, conventional train and suburban management, a new signaled and electric railway will be established through Baspinar-Gaziantep-Oduncular.
Within the scope of the Afyon Suburban System (AFRAY) project, it is planned to rearrange the existing railway line in Afyon and make it suitable for suburban transportation.
Sincan-Yenikent-Kazan Soda Railway infrastructure, signalization and electrification works will continue.
Signalization works of Konya-Karaman-Ulukisla will be completed.
ONGOING URBAN METRO AND TRAM PROJECTS
Gayrettepe-Istanbul Airport Metro Line Construction and Electromechanical Systems Supply, Installation and Commissioning Works will be completed in 2021.
Istanbul Airport – Halkali Metro Line Construction and Electromechanical Systems Supply, Installation and Commissioning Works will continue in 2021.
Gebze-Darica Metro construction and electromechanical systems installation and commissioning works will continue. The cost of the line, which starts from Darica coast and reaches Mollafenari through Marmaray, Gebze center and Gebze Organized Industrial Zone, is 2.5 billion TL. The entire line will be completed in 2023. The metro vehicles of the line will be produced by Bozankaya.
In Istanbul, construction works of Kabatas-Mecidiyekoy-Mahmutbey-Esenyurt metro line, Goztepe-Atasehir-Umraniye metro, Bostancı-Dudullu metro, Cekmekoy-Sultanbeyli metro, Atakoy-Ikitelli metro, Tavşantepe-Tuzla metro and Cibali-Alibeykoy-Eminonu Tram line will continue in 2021.
The construction works will continue on the metro project to extend Izmir’s existing metro line from Fahrettin Altay to Narlidere for 7.2 km, the 13.5 km metro line to connect Izmir’s existing metro line to Buca, the 28 km metro line from Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport to Halkapinar and the tram line between Karsiyaka-Cigli. The 13.5-kilometer-long Izmir Ucyol-Buca Metro Project will consist of 11 stations and 96 wagons (16 sets of 6 wagons each) and the vehicles will be produced on the condition of domestic contribution.
In Ankara, the projects will continue for the revision of Ankaray, the extension of M4 Kizilay, the 7.4-kilometer-long 8-station extension to ensure Ankaray to connect Dikimevi and Natoyolu, and the 800-meter-long single station extension to connect Ankaray with Cayyolu metro (M2) in Sogutozu. 39 Light Rail System LRT vehicles with domestic production contribution will be purchased for the Dikimevi-Natoyolu line.
With a total cost of 2 billion TL, the 25-kilometer-long Gaziantep suburban line and the 55-kilometer-long new railway line construction works will be completed between Nurdag and Baspinar.
In Bursa, City Square-Terminal Tram line (T2) infrastructure works will be completed. Light rail metro will be purchased in amount of 20 vehicles in 4 sets.
Antalya Varsakli-Zerdalilik tram project will be completed and the infrastructure works will continue on the 21-kilometer-long 22-station line between Necmettin Erbakan University and Meram, the first stage of Konya metro.
In Mersin, a tender has been held for the 13.4-kilometer-long 11-station metro line to be built between Station and Mezitli. The tender includes the purchasing of 15 vehicles.
Within the scope of Kocaeli City Hospital tram project, 10 trams will be purchased. Bozankaya or Durmazlar is expected to win the tender.
18 trams will be purchased in Kayseri Light Rail System Project. Bozankaya or Durmazlar is expected to win the tender.
URAYSIM TEST CENTER
In Eskisehir, National Rail Systems Research and Test Center (URAYSIM) will continue the construction works.
RAIL TRANSPORT TECHNOLOGIES INSTITUTE (RUTE)
Founded in 2019, RUTE continues its activities in the fields of Rail vehicle development, Rail vehicle design, Traction System design for Rail vehicles, Train control and management systems design, Engine and Transfer Systems, Robotics and Intelligent Systems, Energy Storage Systems and Engine Center of Excellence.
ONGOING INTERNATIONAL INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS
MOROGORO – MAKUTUPORA RAILWAY (Tanzania)
Carrying out the construction of this line passing through the capital city Dodoma, Yapi Merkezi offers a turnkey project covering all infrastructure and superstructure works including electrification and signalization for this line. The construction of this railway, which covers 409 kilometers in length with workshop areas, warehouse and side lines, will take 3 years. The project will continue in 2021.
DARUSSALAM – MOROGORO RAILWAY (Tanzania)
The project, which will be constructed by Yapi Merkezi as a turnkey project, includes all design works, infrastructure construction works, track laying, signalization, communication systems, spare part supply, electrification and employee training of the 202-kilometer-long single line railway between Darussalam and Morogoro, whose design speed is 160 kilometer per hour. A total of 33 million m3 of excavation work will be carried out during the 30-month project period, including total of 96 bridges and underpasses-overpasses, 460 culverts, 6 stations and repair-maintenance workshops.
AWASH – KOMBOLCHA – HARA GEBEYA RAILWAY (Ethiopia)
The Awash – Kombolcha – Hara Gebeya Railway Project, which is built by Yapi Merkezi as a single line of 390 km in Ethiopia, will provide the connection between the northern and central part of Ethiopia.
DAKAR – AIBD (AIRPORT) HIGH-SPEED TRAIN LINE (Senegal)
A fast, modern, high-frequency rail system infrastructure will be established among Dakar, Diamniadio and AIBD airport by Yapi Merkezi.
DOHA METRO (Qatar)
The 300-kilometer-long Doha Metro, which will be established by the consortium including Yapi Merkezi, is the largest project in Qatar conducted for this purpose with a cost of 4.4 billion dollars, and will provide connections to city centers, important commercial areas and residential areas in the city. The project will be completed before the 2022 World Cup opening.
CTW 130 – SADARA & JUBAIL RAILWAY (Saudi Arabia)
The CTW 130 – Sadara & Jubail Railway Project, which will be carried out by Yapi Merkezi, is a railway project that connects Jubail Industrial City with King Fahad Industrial Port and Jubail Commercial Port, and ensures the integration of railway freight transportation into national and international seaway freight transportation.
JEDDAH STATION (Saudi Arabia)
Within the scope of this project, Yapı Merkezi is responsible for the completion of construction works, testing and submission of Jeddah Central Station building.
DNIPRO METRO CONSTRUCTION (Ukraine)
The design and construction of the 4-kilometer-long metro line and 3 stations will be carried out by Limak.
PUNE METRO UG1 and UG2 (India)
Pune Metro UG1 and UG2 projects by Gulermak continue.
MUMBAI METRO (India)
In the Mumbai Metro Line III, Part UGC-03 project, the construction of a total of 5.05-kilometer-long part, including the construction of 5 stations and a 3.55-kilometer-long double tunnel between Mumbai Train Station and Worli, continues in partnership with Dogus Construction – Soma Enterprise.
OTHER RAIL SYSTEM PROJECTS
ARUS members Aselsan conducts national signalization for metro lines, traction and control systems in metro vehicles and trains; Kardemir manufactures rails and wheels; Savronik carries out signalization, communication, electrification, line security and railway information systems; Vako, Railtur, RC Industry, Acarlar, Gok Group, Ozbir, Esray, Epsilon and Yavuzlar Vagon manufacture freight and passenger wagons; Yapiray, Emreray, Elsitel, Metroray and Demulas conduct all processes including planning of electrification and signalization with test and commissioning; Mescioğlu Engineering actives in the surveying, photogrammetry and railway transportation by providing consultancy and supervision services . Kent Kart carries out passenger information and electronic fare collection systems for public transportation; and our other companies manufacture all engineering, spare parts and equipment needed in these domestic and international projects mentioned.
