ARUS Attended the Launch Ceremony of the Battery-Powered Shunting Locomotive in Kayseri – Dr. İlhami Pektaş
ARUS member company KAAF, which manufactures in Kayseri, has successfully produced Türkiye’s first domestic and national battery-powered shunting locomotive.
The ceremony was attended by Kayseri Governor Gökmen Çiçek, Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Osman Boyraz, Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Dr. Memduh Büyükkılıç, AYGM General Manager Dr. Yalçın Eyigün, ASPİLSAN General Manager Prof. Dr. Ahmet Turan Özdemir, TÜRASAŞ Deputy General Manager Atanur Karadağ, members of the provincial protocol, and Dr. İlhami Pektaş representing the ARUS administration.
All subcomponents of Türkiye’s first battery-powered locomotive were designed, manufactured, tested and commissioned by young engineers trained in this country.
The locomotive, with a hauling capacity of 2,500 tons, features control and management algorithms entirely developed by young Turkish engineers and can be precisely operated via remote control. In particular, the braking system developed together with this locomotive—one of the most critical components of railway vehicles—was also designed by KAAF.
The RE2500 Battery-Powered Shunting Locomotive has been designed to serve in industrial and railway logistics operations, including depots, shunting yards and industrial lines. Equipped with advanced electric traction systems and batteries, the RE2500 delivers zero-emission performance, significantly reducing its environmental footprint. Designed for heavy-duty shunting operations, the locomotive provides powerful performance with precise control, ensuring smooth and reliable manoeuvring operations. It stands out as an indispensable product for modern railway logistics.
KAAF, which produced its first shunting locomotive for Seza Cement in Elazığ, is now preparing for exports to France, the United States and other European countries upon demand.
We congratulate KAAF and wish the company continued success.
